The origins of Wright

Wryhta (pronounced rye-ta) dating back to around 700 AD is the Old English word for ‘worker’ or ‘craftsman’ more specifically ‘carpenter’ someone who works skilfully with wood. Being the origin of the occupational name Wright and traditionally used in combinations such as ‘Cartwright’, ‘Shipwright’ and ‘Wainwright’.

By choosing the name Wryhta we honour the earliest language of our trade and the long lineage of craftsmen whose skill, care and tradition continue to inspire the work we do today.
